Street Pastors is a night-time ministry of the Church to people in the pub and club areas of Swindon. Working at weekends between 10pm and 4am, Street Pastors are on the streets to be a prayerful presence, and to offer pastoral care and practical help. It is not about preaching, but about sharing the love of Jesus in practical ways, not least by being a listening ear. Street Pastors works collaboratively with the Police and the Local Authority to be a calming influence on the streets. It's not about enforcement, but about engagement with people's needs right where they are - on the street.
Street Pastors Swindon launched in 2007 as has been patrolling the club areas of Swindon at night since the end of September 2007. We are currently looking for more volunteers to start training in September 2008. Volunteers must be in good standing within their own local church and have been involved there for more than a year. References and an enhanced CRB clearance will be required. Contact the address below or email us for more details.
Street Pastors is not limited to any one denomination of Christian Church. Volunteers can come from any Christian Church and teams are usually of mixed Church background.
Street Pastors Swindon is part of the national Street Pastors Initiative which is endorsed by the Home Office and New Scotland Yard. The Street Pastors Initiative is a registered charity (no 1039580) and has its own website which can be reached by clicking here
